Holophane’s Sherington Luminaires Enhance Character of Village
The new lighting scheme in Sherington Village, which lies along the road from Newport Pagnell to Olney in North Buckinghamshire, utilises Holophane Lighting’s Sherington luminaire – part of the heritage range. Chosen for their design, which fitted well with the character of the village, the luminaires were named ‘Sherington’ by the sales manager at Holophane who spent his formative years living there.
Lighting for the village was previously provided by very basic, orange sodium fittings attached by brackets to poles that carried the unsightly overhead power cables that supplied the electricity to homeowners. When some of the poles needed replacing following a cable failure, Central Networks decided to run the cables underground which meant that a new lighting solution had to be found. The Parish Council was presented with many options to replace the original street lighting and were unanimous in their opinion that the Sherington luminaires fitted the bill.
Thirty Five of the hand-crafted copper Sherington lanterns were used for the project, increasing lighting levels whilst providing a more pleasant, less orange/whiter light. The optical assembly of Sherington, with a Holophane precision aluminium reflector, provides two different light distributions for outstanding performance and uniformity. The combination of the decorative Sherington lantern with Holophane’s modern optical technology provides a traditional appearance without compromising the need to maintain lighting standards, which appealed to all concerned. Feedback from residents has been extremely positive and the Parish Council were pleased with the cost of the installation plus the fact that a local company was being used. Everyone agrees that the appearance of the village has significantly improved.
